Winter (Break) is coming
School is closing for winter break in a few weeks and the kids will be out of school for 2 whole weeks!!!
This is great because the kids can finally catch up on everything they've missed so far this school year. Sleeping in? No. Playing video games? No. Visiting friends? No. Traveling to visit grandparents? No, but a good thing, of course. Studying? Ding, ding, ding. Yes.
Hold it! If the kids have a "C" grade or below, I'm happy to report that the winter break is a great opportunity to dust off those math textbooks and binders and revisit topics from the 1st few units of the year. That's 1st and 2nd quarter materials.
Summer break left some brains dusty 3 whole months ago and the fog is still lifting.
Tests and quizzes will begin once school resumes and homework will triple. There will not be enough time for students to recover from all the Christmas turkey and pies. Yum!
During this winter break, plan to revisit topics from the 1st and 2nd quarters. Also use this time to get ahead by practicing problems in upcoming units.
Don't know where to find the upcoming units after winter break? Check the syllabus provided at the beginning of the school year, look on blackboard, google classroom, or better yet, ask your math teacher. Remember you can always ask your math tutor :-)
Practicing problems in upcoming units all the time is rewarding for all students.
Make good use of your time this winter break. Don't waste it.
